Mars Research Review Board (MRRB)

In all of our scientific research involving humans and animals, we have a responsibility to adhere to the highest scientific and ethical standards. The Mars Research Review Board (MRRB) guides our work with humans and animals, ensuring that it strictly adheres to our policies on research involving human participants and animals.

The Mars Research Review Board is made up of senior leaders at Mars:

  • Vice President, Technology
  • Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs
  • Vice President, Corporate R&D
  • Chief Science Officer
  • General Counsel Global Food Law
  • Head of Ethics & Welfare, WALTHAM, Mars Petcare
  • Director, Scientific Policy and Engagement

In addition to our senior Mars leaders, our external MRRB Advisors — preeminent scientists, veterinarians and leaders in their fields — provide sound, independent advice in ensuring we fully comply with our policies. Our external Advisors are:

  • Linda Duffy, PhD, MPH
    Linda Duffy most recently served at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of the Secretary, and for many years at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a Senior Scientific Administrator for translational science (NCRR/NCCIH), with attention to relevant bioethical policies.
     
  • James Serpell PhD
    James Serpell is Professor of Ethics and Animal Welfare and the Director of the Center for the Interaction of Animals and Society at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
     
  • Elizabeth Gard, DVM, DACLAM
    Elizabeth Gard is a practicing veterinarian and a former consultant for the Office for Laboratory Animal Welfare.
     
  • Peggy McCardle, PhD, MPH
    Peggy McCardle is a former Branch Chief at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), US National Institutes of Health, and is now affiliated with Haskins Laboratories, New Haven CT as well as president of her own LLC.
